Traffic Route to FUKUI:

We recommend that the route to Fukui is better from Kansai International Airport (KIX, http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/en/index.html), because the approach is shorter than from Narita Airport (NRT) in Japan.

  1. When you arrived at KIX, you have to go to JR (Japan Railway) Kansai Airport Station (Level 2).
  2. You can buy railway tickets to Fukui without advance reservation at JR Ticket Office (see PDF file, “station_kansai-airport”). You have to buy a railway ticket (to Fukui, ¥4,650) and 2 limited express tickets for normal seat (one for “Haruka” from KIX to Kyoto, ¥970, and another one for “Thunderbird” from Kyoto to Fukui, ¥1,830).

  3. Please ask the station staff how is crowded in “Haruka” and “Thunderbird”. If they were crowded, I recommend you buy a railway ticket (to Fukui, ¥4,650) and 2 limited express tickets for reserved seat (one for “Haruka” from KIX to Kyoto, ¥1,490, and another one for “Thunderbird” from Kyoto to Fukui, ¥2,350), because you have to remain standing to Fukui for about 3 and a half hour (about 1 hr from KIX to Kyoto and 2 and a half from Kyoto to Fukui).
  4. After getting your tickets, you have to go down to No. 4 platform to get on “Haruka” to Kyoto.
  5. When you arrived at Kyoto station, you have to find No. 0 platform to get on “Thunderbird”.
